09/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - Former Czech and Polish presidents Vaclav
Havel, Lech Walesa and Aleksander Kwasniewski have called on the EU to
reduce the cost of Schengen visas for Belarusians from €60 to €35, the CTK
agency reported on 9 January, according to a Czech Association for
International Affairs document. This document says that freedom of movement
can help the process of democratisation in Belarus. The spokesman for the
Czech foreign minister argued for change to the current situation. Before
the enlargement of the Schengen area, Belarusians could travel into the
Czech Republic for €15 and into Poland and Lithuania for €5. (B.C.)
